Family Cooperative
Russell is a parent cooperative preschool, and parents play a vital role in the daily functioning and overall running of the school.
Russell Preschool is a cooperative, so parents play a vital role in the daily tasks and overall functioning of the school. Through these cooperative activities, families have a chance to be involved in their child's first school experience and to get to truly know all the students and teachers. Young children come to feel at home with their classmates' families and especially look forward to their family’s helper days. Russell Preschool also has a Board of Directors, which typically includes current parents, alumni parents, community members, and the school Director.
Over the years, families have affirmed that this involvement with the school generates a valuable feeling of community and commitment for families, teachers, and children alike.
As part of a cooperative community, each family assists with the following:
Family Helper Days: Each day, a student family serves as a family helper at the school and assists the teachers with simple tasks such as preparing and serving the morning snack, setting up for lunchtime, and getting the cots ready for afternoon rest. As a cooperative, each family commits to at least six days per year as family helper, depending on the number of days your child attends per week.
Each family will serve on one of several school committees
Attend the annual playground cleanup workday
Attend the annual Russell All School Meeting.
